Education and Women’s Power in Maintaining Peace Culture in Nigeria

Abstract:

This research focuses on education and women’s power to maintain a peaceful culture. Brief explanations on concepts of peace and culture were given and the paper examines the role of women and the methods they employ in maintaining peace in the traditional African society. However, the fact that society is becoming more complex and, the problem of unending conflict in the African region calls for a more modern and globally acceptable method of maintaining peace which requires sound education. The paper highlighted the various roles that have been played and being played by educated women in maintaining peace culture in the society while emphasizing more education for them as mothers, teachers, advocates, trainers, etc. It, therefore, recommended among others that; the government should create and strengthen mechanisms that will broaden the understanding of Nigerians on the importance of the contributions of women to maintaining peace culture when they are given sound education.
